InterContinental Wellington was recognised by the travel industry when named as Best Business Hotel in Australasia for the second year in a row at the 15th World Travel Awards in Sydney on Monday night.

General Manager David Shackleton said his team was delighted to once again receive the accolade.

"Delivering quality service and facilities consistently is one of the hardest aspects to achieve, and yet forms the very cornerstone of our promise to our guests.

The Awards were launched in 1993 to acknowledge and recognise excellence in all sectors of the global travel industry, splitting the world into eight regions. Regarded as one of the highest achievements a travel product could ever hope to receive, the USA's Wall Street Journal referred to them as "the Oscars of the Travel Industry".

Candidates for nomination are based upon the previous year's voting, when hundreds of thousands of votes are registered online annually at the official World Travel Awards website.

Once the finalists are announced, thousands of votes are received from travel professionals representing 167,000 travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organisations in more than 160 countries across the globe.

Graham Cooke, President and Founder of the World Travel Awards, said after Monday's Awards ceremony:

"There was immense pride in the amazing achievements of all the winners, who are an example, not only to the region, but also to the international travel and tourism industry.

"They are setting fresh and challenging standards by pushing the barriers and increasing the quality of customer experience to entirely new levels.
